Frugal Glam Tip: Less is More

Last night, I cleaned and organized my make-up and decided to toss any old products and any products that are just taking up space. I also went through all my hair care products and tossed the ones that were also just taking up space.

After cleaning and organizing, I decided to only purchase shampoo and conditioner once the bottles are empty and stop buying so many different ones. I don't want my bathroom to look like an aisle in Target. I want a nice organized bathroom. I also went through my bath and body products to toss any I didn't want any more.

The old phrase: "Less is More" is really true. I know following this phrase will save me more money in the long run and leave me with a much roomier bathroom.

Money Saving Tips: Live like a College Student

Some of the best advice I got when I graduated from college was: "Continue to live like a college student for 5-7 years. You will save a lot of money".

Here are 7 frugal things I did in college and still do now:

1. Buy pasta (cheap and easy to cook).

2. Cook instead of buying take-out (mentioned this before).

3. Use coupons at the grocery store.

4. If possible walk instead of drive (it's exercise and saves on gas)

5. Buy in Bulk (feminine products, paper products, etc)

6. Go to the movie during matinee.

7. Don't make shopping a hobby. Find other things to do: spending time with friends, reading, hiking, etc.

Money Saving Tips

I thought I would give a few money saving tips:

1. Before you buy something ask yourself "Do I really need this?" If not then put it back.
2. Use Excel to create an easy budget.
3. Just like dieting. Don't deprive yourself, everything in moderation. So not to overspend.
4. If you can't afford a new outfit then find affordable accessories to make an old outfit feel new.
5. Don't buy something on sale that you would never pay full price for.
6. Don't feel pressured by a sales person to buy something. It's your money.
7. This is for parents, Learn how to say NO.

Money Saving Tip: Create a Weekend Fund

I like to do things on the weekend instead of just sitting at home but sometimes the budget doesn't always agree with that. So, for the past few years, I have been putting money aside just for the weekend.

It gives me the freedom of extra money for the weekend without tapping into my savings or having to use any credit cards. You can start small by just putting $2, $5 or $10 a week aside, but for those with a larger income can put more aside per week.

This also works for those getting allowance from mom and dad.

Money Saving Tips

I thought these tips might be helpful:

^ If you never use up all of your beauty products such as shampoo, conditioner, fancy lotions, etc. The next time you want to buy a new product, why not go in half with a friend and separate the product. You both get half of the product and only paid for half of the price. You save money and still look pretty.

^ Cut back on the amount of shampoo, toothpaste, etc you use. The manufacturers want us to use more, so we buy more.

^ Make the most out of beauty and dental schools. The students need the practice and you can save money.

^ Don't Chase Trends. Try to develop you own style.

^ Take clothes (good quality, clean) you no longer wear to a consignment shop to sell and make extra money.

^ If you use credit cards, don't charge more than you can pay off in a month unless it's an emergency (car repair, home repair, etc.).

Money Saving Tips

Today's post will be a little different. I decided not to post any products because I am working on my budget.

Looking pretty can become expensive sometimes. I am saving money for a future move and I also just want to have money in the bank instead of hanging in my closet as shoes, clothes, accessories. I enjoy trying to save money and I'm trying to figure out ways I can cut back and still look pretty.

Some of the ways I save money are:

Giving myself manicures and pedicures $$
Cutting back on buying magazines each month $$
I cook meals to reduce buying take out $$$
Check-out some books from the library (I read a lot) $$$
Go to Happy Hour $$
Drink water instead of pop $$
For clothes, buy quality over quantity and classic over trendy (most of the time) $$$
Go to parties at friends home instead of paying expensive prices for trendy clubs $$

What are you saving for? What are you willing to cut back on?
