A little gift for Dad

My dad loves The Simpsons and I thought I would do something nice and buy him season 1 ($31.99, amazon.com) to start of his collection. It was a perfect gift for him because he really enjoyed it.
It's the least I can do, my parents took such good care of me and spoiled me, why not spoil them when I get the chance.

Tea and Conversation

Sunday afternoon, I went to a Tea Party and had good time. The invite stated that this was a casual attire affair.

So I wore my V-neck top that I got from Anthropologie ($78.00) with dark wash jeans, black fitted blazer and black boots. I put my hair up in a loose/messy bun and wore silver hoop earrings.
My friend gave all the guest a pink or purple box with a cupcake and a pink shoe cookie as a exit gift.
That was a good way to end the weekend. I had a chance to meet some new people (since I only knew the host) and enjoy delicious treats.

Shoes: Not on my list but couldn't resist

Saturday I went with my cousin to Target, she was looking to buy some yoga pants and top and my goal was to buy the slippers I saw on clearance the other day.

But as I pass the shoe department I got a glimpse of these shoes. I really did not plan on buying a new pair of shoes but I couldn't resist.
They are the Mossimo Presta Ankle-Tie Wedges ($24.99, Target). The only thing I can do now is wait until summer to wear them. What I love is the 4" faux cork heel.

My son really loves the Johnson's body wash, it makes him feel like a grownup because he sees our products in the bathroom and now he has his own. I like it because it's a mult-use product (money saver)".

Chamomile and Green Tea a Tough eye make-up remover

My aunt (the one who introduced me to The River Soap Company products) who is into organic and green living has given me another product to try, Earth Science Chamomile and Green Tea Eye Make-up Remover ($6.50, veganunlimited.com).

It's very non-irritating and took off all my make-up without leaving any sticky residue around my eyes or making the skin around my eyes feel tight. It's fragrance free and no artificial coloring added.
Also, I didn't need to use a lot of it for it to work. Even if you are not into green living this is a great product to at least try.

Paves Offers Flawless Straight Hair

Now that the weather is back to being really cold. My hair has some static issues and my scalp is a little dry. I always like to try new products, so I bought Paves (Jessica Simpson's hair stylist) Professional Flawless Straight and Narrow Repairing Relaxing Balm ($5.99, Walgreens or Ulta.com).

It's a little different than the products that normally use because it's a gel based instead of cream. It kept my hair straight (didn't have to use my flat iron that often) and smooth.

The unique thing about this relaxing balm is the burdock and ginseng extracts added to revitalize hair to stimulate hair growth (from description).

The product that Chellbell654 use is C.O. Bigelow Eye De-Puff Hydrating Gel ($23.00, Bath & Body Works). She says she wakes up with puffy eyes and this is the only thing that helps her eyes look better. "It's a little expensive, but you only have to use a little bit for it to work, says Chellbell654.

Rachael Ray to the Rescue

I feel like I'm so busy that I barely have time to scramble together meals let alone healthy meals. So, I decided to buy Rachael Ray's 30-Minute Get Real Meals: Eat Healthy Without Going to Extremes ($13.57, amazon.com).
I got it a few weeks ago and I have found some time to prepare a few meals. I'm not really a take out food person, I like take out just not all the time. I would prefer to eat an amazing meal in a nice restaurant every now and then.
Why is this considered a Frugal Glam product? It's saving me money by cooking and eating at home, in which I can do something else with the money.

Reader's Frugal Glam Product

I have received a few Frugal Glam Product reviews from readers and will post them throughout the week.

Genny has curly hair and likes to use Garnier Fructic Style Soft Curl Construct Mousse ($3.99, drugstores) to keep her curls from getting frizzy.
She has a limited beauty budget and when her funds get a little low she buys the store brand shaving cream, she says, "it works the same as the name brand product that I normally buy. "

5-minute Face for Dinner with Friends

Last night, I was going out to dinner with some friends but I didn't have time to go home. I also didn't have my make-up bag with me.

Anyway, Luckly there was a drugstore on my way and I quickly bought eyeshadow, lip gloss and mascara. It took less than 5 minutes to look pretty.

I bought the Maybelline Shadow Stylist in Sophisticated Wine ($5.99, drugstores). I love the spongy applicator tip because I used the tip to line my eyes and the side to put the powder on. It's a pretty good product and it's easy to use.

The lip gloss I bought was Bonne Bell Lip Lites Lip Gloss in Cappucino ($3.50, drugstores). It's a great nude lip gloss with an amazing flavor. The color complimented the eyeshadow rather well. It goes on smooth and doesn't feel sticky. I use to buy Bonne Bell when I was younger maybe I'll try more of these lip glosses.

The last thing I bought was Cover Girl Triple Mascara in Black ($5.99, drugstores). This was easy to put on even under time constraints (I don't like to be late) and it did not irritate my eyes.

I have no Blues for these Paris Blues

I'm always on the lookout for my next favorite pair of jeans. Right now I'm in love with these Paris Blues Black ($29.50, alloy.com).

There is a slight flare to the legs which I love. The fit is nice and comfortable but what I really like is the dark rinse. They lengthen my legs, which I love.

Attack Backne with a Purpose

Okay, I hate to admit this but sometimes I get the wayward pimple...on my back (aarg). I guess it's between the indoor heat, exercising and bundling up to go outside in the cold air, I'm bound to sweat or irritat my back.

To fix it, I like to use Purpose Gentle Cleansing Bar ($3.99, drugstores) just on my back with a back brush to help keep my back nice and clear.
I know it can be a little expensive or silly to some to use a different soap just one area of the body, but it really does keep my back from breaking out.

Q and A

It's question and answer time. Feel free to leave a comment about the questions.

Q: Do you get paid for your comments?

A: No, this is a not for profit blog. I do not make any money from any company. A while back I removed the google ad from my blog. The only thing I might receive are a few samples to try and I always state whether the item is a gift, sample or if I paid for it. I do not make any money from this site. My opinions are my own.

Q: I'm your typical poor college student and I don't have time to do my hair so I just throw it up in a ponytail all the time. But I think the kind I use is breaking my hair off. What kind do you use?

A: I like to use the Goody Ouchless ($1.99, drugstores), Scunci No Damage ($2.99, drugstores) and every now and then I like to buy the Sephora Snag-Free Hair Elastics (8 for $3.50, sephora stores or sephora.com). They all work good on my hair and are pretty inexpensive. These are the only ponytail holders I use.

I use to do the same thing (putting my hair up) when I was in school (busy schedule), unless I was going out, going to a party or just felt like looking pretty. I would put my hair in a ponytail but I would try to make the ponytail look nice and sleek. If you have some time, try to make it look polished, so you will look great all day (see pictures). If it in your budget I would suggest going to see a stylist to get the ends of your hair trimed. I would also suggest investing in a deep conditioner to use every now and then to keep your hair healthy and strong.

Movies and beauty

Over the weekend, I invited some friends over for a movie day. We each selected a movie to watch. These are the movies we watched (in no certain order):
1. Breakfast at Tiffany's
2. Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest
3. How to Lose a Guy in 10 days
4. The Hills have Eyes.
We figured why not make ourselves look pretty while watching movies. I decided to give myself a manicure and the color that I've been wearing lately is the OPI Classic Shades Nail Lacquer in Tutti Frutti Tonga ($7.50, drugstore.com). It's a soft pretty pink.

But no matter what color or nail polish brand I use I always put use Sally Hansen No Chip - Acrylic Top Coat ($3.99, drugstores). It makes it seem like I have professional manicure when I just sat at home and did them myself.
Another friend polished her nails too while the other two put on face mask. We just sat around watching movies, laughing and relaxing.

Tickle Me Pink

What is it about the color Pink the makes your skin look so pretty? I bought this beautiful Arissa Compact Eyeshadow in Tickle Me ($3.75) on drugstore.com. This is a new brand to me because I have never heard of it, but I thought I would give it a try.

The darker pink has a nice vibrant color and the lighter pink adds just a hint of color. My brown eyes seem to sparkle a little bit.

I like to try new products and plus I couldn't pass up such a great deal. The shades blend really easily. I find the quality of the product to be good and not chalky.

It doesn't irritant eyes which is very good (that is my #1 concern).

I'm so happy it's Friday. It feels like it's been a long week. Looking forward to the weekend.

Yummy treats for your lips

Pretty much everyone knows I love all types of beauty products. I thought it was very sweet of my aunt to give me this mark. Juice Gems Gift Set ($12.00, avon.com).

The names of the glosses alone are yummy: crème caramel, chocolate fondue and buttercream brioche. But they taste yummy as well. Each color looks amazing and shiny. They are non-sticky or heavy, which I love.

The gift set comes with this sexy little pouch. I consider this a very sweet gift.

Earrings from American Eagle

I love accessories especially earrings and I bought these Teardrop Earrings from American Eagle ($12.50). I have been trying to find a pair of earrings like these for such a long time.

They remind me of summer, very casual and carefree. I love how you can wear them day or night. I will probably wait until spring or summer to wear them.

Reader's Frugal Glam Product

This is the first Reader's Frugal Glam review of 2007.

Aria normally buys clothes and accessories from dELiAs.com but she also found these Panel Pillows for $24.00 each. She says "I wanted some new pillows for my couch. I've seen similar ones for a much higher price and couldn't pass this up."

She has a small white couch and wanted to add some color to it and figure these would fit in with the rest of her decor.

Mascara that Lift your Lashes and one that itches

Over the weekend, I was trying to find a mascara that would make my short lashes look longer. I decided to try the Max Factor Lash Lift ($6.00, drugstores), that a friend told me about. The surprise was it actually worked, making my lashes look fuller and longer.

I like it because it's very light weight and doesn't irritate my eyes (I wear contacts). This mascara also gave a natural look to my lashes and didn't make them look dryed out.

However, another mascara I bought really did irritate my eyes was the Cover Girl Lash Exact Mascara ($6.50, drugstores). I found that the rubber bristles hurt and was hard on my eye lashes. When the mascara dried it started to make my eyes itch. I had to quickly remove it. I also tossed it in the garbage. The only thing I can say that I did like about this masaca is it didn't clump.
Remember these are my opinion on products that I've tried maybe they work for you and not for me or vice-versa. I just want to give my opinion and I would love to read yours.
Leave a comment about these two mascaras. We want to read your opinions.

Product Feature: Pantina lip balm and gloss

I received some samples from Pantina Cosmetics's Naturally Stunning Spring 2007 Collection. Even though they are not in the stores yet I would like to review them for you.

The first samples are the Pantina Buttery Lip Plumping Balm ($5.00 each). As I stated in a previous post about lip plumping, I can never tell if they are working because my lips are naturally plump.

Aside from that, I do like how smooth the product goes on with just a hint of color and a great tast of peppermint.

They did keep my lips moistured even in cold weather (I tested them on really cold days). They also, contain shea butter, peppermint essential oils and vitamins C & E. I have no complaint against this product. I like the sleek pink and white design of the tube (has a clear detachable top).

The second samples are the Pantina Fusion Gloss ($4.50 each). These are great little products that provide a really nice shiny (non-glazed donut) look. It's a sheer gel gloss. I also love the Asian inspired scents and flavors they are avaible in such as: Mandarin Green Tea, Lycee Lollipops and Asian Pear Punch.

I love the product but I'm not so keen on the bottle design, it kind of reminds me of a nail polish bottle.

I think this product would look great in a sleek twist bottle that can fit nicely in your purse or jeans.

Mint Tea not just for drinking

A body wash that I love to use occasionally is the Korres Mint Tea Showergel ($11.00, sephora.com).

It doesn't take long for this creamy showergel to become foamy. It's moisturizing and energizing. The scent reminds me of a summer day sitting outside drinking ice cold ice tea.

It's a very good product but the price might deter a few people. This showergel is worth a little splurge every now and then.

From the bottle: Active Aloe juice, rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc and antioxidant enzymes, enhances the immune system of the skin.

American Girl offers more than just dolls

I love lip balm and I found this, American Girl realbeauty inside and out™ Flavor Blast™ Lip Balm in Mango Tango ($4.50, bathandbodyworks.com) at the Bath and Body Works website.

I know these are geared towards little girls because they're from the American Girl line but I really like the cute little container and the mango taste (not to overpowering and great taste).

It's also a great product for keeping lips moisturized and soft. It gave my lips a nice hint of shine.

A Metallic Accessory to Write home about

One of my new year's resolutions is to get more organized. I started by updating the pens in my pen cup. I tossed out all of the old pens and replaced them with a few of these PaperMate PhD Metallic Retractable Ballpoint Pens ($8.00 each, wherever pens are sold). I bought mine from an art supple store near me.
I like the comfortable griper on the pen because I write a lot and sometimes my fingers get tired. I also like how smooth the pen writes.
So, instead of having a bunch of mixed matched pens, I now have a few good pens that are not cluttering up my desk. Now, I just have to make sure I don't lose any of them.
